Mahalo I told you it would be good!
For those of you that did not read my article several months ago entitled ((Power to the people how to raise 20 million no sweat I suggest you read it now so that you)) understand what I am going on about.
Just as a refresher Jason Calacanis the brain behind Weblogs Inc closing a deal to AOL for a mere $25 million before that he single handed gave birth to Silicon Alley Media.
Now I am the first to say I am one hell of a fan of Jason, he is one of the very few people involved in internet technologies whom is not a scam artist like 99.9% of every self proclaimed internet Guru, but an intelligent honourable entrepreneur.
Several months ago Jason gave birth to Mahalo human powered search and I stated then what a winner it was going to be and several months on it is showing signs of strength to strength. Now I am not one to Google bash, but believe even though Jason is keeping tight relations with the God of the Internet Google should watch out for being nabbed from behind.
No matter how big you are in the world you can always lose market share overnight; this is illustrated in Star Bucks the people who make terrible commercial coffee, loosing a considerable amount of market share and gone into damage control.
Also we could look a Singleton Ogilvy and Mather here in Oz. What once was one of the strongest branding companies is now faced with the task of attempting to stop the bleeding that has seen them loosing market share month after month.
Now true nether of these two examples are in the same league as Google, but the example holds true, even Microsoft has lost an incredible amount of market share. Face Book is trying to win back the hundreds of thousands of people they have lost and the list continues.
No company on this planet is strong enough or should be arrogant enough to rest on their laurels. Every day companies open serving the exact same market as a competitor and succeed, this is the fickleness of people and market.
If staying at the top was easy companies such as Coke Cola (Amatil) would not spend millions annually on their marketing budget. We as people are a easily led people and will change loyalty at the drop of a hat. Even if to coin a phrase you are in love with your love mark (brand) you still may ether change or try another brand.
Here lies the complete danger to any brand no matter how strong they are or if have even reached the level of 'love mark', by the way love mark was coined by Kevin Roberts of Saatchi and Saatchi.
Now back to Jason and Mahalo I would say quite comfortably that Mahalo is set to grow and soon on a much higher growth curve as market awareness gains momentum. Any of you whom have started to Mahalo over Google (I know I have) will already be seeing the brilliant concise list of search results with no index SPAM isn’t it just great)
Of course, if there are no results from Mahalo simply we are presented with the Google results anyway, so using Mahalo does not lessen your search capabilities or limit what you can find. Personally from a business point of view it is quicker simpler and faster to Mahalo. We have already implemented Mahalo search in our companies and all employees now have to Mahalo before even looking at Google.
Over the next months, I will continue to update you loyal readers on how Mahalo is going. I believe we will see a fledgling company turn into one of the search results leaders. I believe we will see the acceptance in business faster than the general public but still, I believe a large market share will be seen within two too three years, mark my words.
Jason is no idiot and I would say has a three, five and beyond plan if he intends to keep it that long and not sell and move on to another project, as with many entrepreneurs they tend to become board easily and require much stimuli to find happiness.
Let us sit back and watch an brilliant business mind develop the next hottest search resource.
