Patrick Ryall - WEBRAND
A social rant, with underlines of maybe useful stuff.
About me:
For some reason in 1986 I decided computers were going to be cool!, little did I know they would send me grey early bring on pattern baldness and basically raise stress levels to heights not acceptable for human survival.
I spent years with the sound of squelching modems screaming through the house as locals dialled in to BBS services, this gave way to the incredible speed of the bank modem and the Internet. Wow how cool were those days, gazing at 8mb ram sticks costing $900, building our first Pentium computer for a rich doctor over the way and being bewildered at it's smooth interface and lightning fast reactions.
Yes they were the days, the simple days, pre plug and pray, and SPAM was still wow I have mail.
Marketing a psychology, have been more than a simple interest to me, holding a bachelor of marketing degree, along with commerce. Also studying consumer behaver psychology to complement the marketing degree.
I have a personal belief that no one needs to be sold too, and thus simple solutions marketed to the right people will always bring about the needed sales.
It is a simple philosophy that most business miss be them big or small. A customer who walks into the shop, just needs a solution to their problem, not to be sold to.
One of the hardest parts of shopping in Australia compared to many European countries is the incessant need to jump on the person soon as they walk in the store. I find as do many people not from Oz, this approach to be sale killing and downright annoying.
Remember when years ago you could pull into the service station and someone would fill your tank, they did not try and sell you the fuel. For this is why you were there in the first place to receive a solution to your problem, no selling needed.
When a company takes on the mindset of marketing over selling, they soon feel the increase in revenue from the approach. So remember next time a customer walks into you market, slow down, let them soak up the surroundings, feel comfortable, and then offer to fill the need they have. As if they had no need, they would not be there in the first place.
